Founded in 2014, the University Gilbert & Sullivan Society (UGSS) seeks to provide educational and performance experiences to Indiana University students each year through a fully-staged Gilbert & Sullivan work.
This completely student-run organization presents unique opportunities to get involved across every aspect of a show’s production, from acting to costume design to audience development. This allows students to not only cultivate their stagecraft as performers, but also gain valuable professional skills applicable to any career in the arts and culture industry.
As a young grassroots organization, UGSS places tremendous value on its relationships with the community. The joy of sharing the energy, merriment, and singular style of Gilbert & Sullivan with the people around us is what makes our student organization tick--it lies at the core of why we do what we do. We are grateful to our past and current partner organizations, which include Cardinal Stage Company, New Voices Opera, Aver's Pizza, Chick-fil-A, Jimmy Johns, and Jackson Creek Middle School.

I’m used to expecting first-class productions from the formal ensembles at the Jacobs School. But I was especially delighted by this one, put together…purely for the love of the art. I sure hope this group brings us more G&S. |
"It's a great opportunity to see good singers working together for the pure passion of it. There's no credit, no grade, no money. It's a special kind of energy that very few times happens in the professional world, and it's just around the corner." |
